Balloons

Inflatable couture

Give 1,200 balloon tubes to clowns, and they will twist them into an endless series of dogs, cats, bears and dolphins - much to the delight of children.

Here comes the bride, with 300 balloons

Of all the ways to take your vows with wows, few could match walking down the aisle in a wedding dress made of balloons.

And in Hong Kong, where weddings are no small affairs, brides-to-be seeking that extra lift are looking to Phoebe Chan Kin-pui.

Pop art

We don't want to burst your bubble, but there's now more to party balloons than bendy poodles and limp decorations.

Online retailer Balloonfish is out to show that balloons can be gifts in themselves, and delivers 'bouquets' of the helium-filled wonders, which float out of their box when it's opened by the recipient.

Balloon artist offers a fresh twist to mall's chocolate campaign

It's somewhat confusing. Harbour City's newest promotion is a sweet-toothed art exhibit called the Chocolate Trail, but to kick it off they invited a Japanese balloon artist to demonstrate her craft. So what's the connection? As thin as it was, Rie Hosokai used a bunch of chocolate coloured balloons at the press preview last Thursday.

Memories are made of these 7

I remember the very first year on the very first night the bunny ears came out in Lan Kwai Fong. It was such a hit. I had never been chatted up by so many men before in my life! They were the perfect accoutrement to Lan Kwai Fong bright pink T-shirts with bunny girls on them saying 'This bunny ... plays ball!' I have a pink boa to match it.

Inflated expectations

Is it a six-foot-tall balloon with legs? A man with a balloon for a head?

At the Lunar New Year 'Megaballoon Acrobatic Show' at Olympian City, starring the naughty, thrilling, daring, world-renowned Danish balloon artist Lars Lottrup, it's these things and more.

Hunk of burning love

Hardly have the Christmas baubles been packed away when, in typical Hong Kong fashion, it's time to hop on board the commercial lurve wagon that is Valentine's Day. An early press release from the Royal Garden Hotel in Kowloon is advertising for luvvy-duvvy couples to come to their 'Make your wish come true this Valentine's Day' buffets - with an added twist.

Gotta admire his um ... balloons

Those practical jokers from a certain MTV show have done it again. Before their launch press conference last Thursday, the guys from Whatever Things! managed to float one of their crew members over Victoria Harbour attached to a number of large helium balloons. Check out the incriminating photo.

Diesel party fuels fears in flight path

Diesel has become the first fashion house to throw a party at the West Kowloon Helipad, and considering the huge turnout for its crazy event, the venue will likely appear on many invitation cards in the future.

Balloon fleet's bombs did very little damage

The article on the Japanese pilot who bombed America in 1945 (Sunday Morning Post, April 22), was interesting, but made little mention of the balloon attacks on the west coast of North America.

Balloons don't fit

I read with interest the letter 'Ads unfit for trees' (South China Morning Post, February 14). If the description there is accurate, I believe this fitness club has other centres in town. Outside a centre on Wellington Street, Central, balloons were seen tied on pavement railings which are supposedly on a public piece of land.

Does anyone recall inflatable?

I appeal for witnesses to the Rugby Sevens 1995, held at Stanley Fort on November 26, 1995.

My two-year-old son broke his leg while playing on one of the inflatable bouncy castles, shaped like an animal, on that day.

Blown out of proportion

THE wonders of modern technology. When an MTR train pulls into a station it looks like a thundering juggernaut. Nothing can stop it until it is ready to stop itself.

And yet, to the embarrassment of all concerned, this formidable piece of machinery was paralysed at a stroke by a Minnie Mouse balloon last week.

Rush-hour chaos may foil balloons on MTR

CHILDREN'S foil balloons may be outlawed in MTR stations after a rogue Minnie Mouse balloon floated into a tunnel and brought rush-hour traffic to a halt.

About 100,000 commuters were forced to wait in stations on the Island line after the helium-filled balloon tripped an electric current and burned through an overhead cable.
