Marcus gives backers run for their money

One main thing about backing a Basil Marcus-ridden runner is that you do get a run for your money.

Marcus, the six-time champion, lacks nothing in the bravery stakes as many jockeys have found out during his eight-year stint in town.

Unlucky Kris can deliver

DO NOT give up on Aim On Kris after his effort in the roughly run fourth event at Sha Tin last night.

Aim On Kris got no sort of a run in the race otherwise he might well have been involved in the finish and it would be foolhardy to dismiss him on the strength of this unplaced effort.

Altered track a dirty deed

PROTECTING the interests of punters is mandatory for any racing authority but the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club failed in this paramount duty at Happy Valley last Wednesday night.

The six-event programme was on equitrack and the official going was 'good to firm' which, to any regular follower of Hong Kong racing, translates into fast times on the predicted firm ground.

A chance dropped

THE run of the night with an eye to a future winner was put in by Fortune Ring in the fifth event. He finished third to shock winner Lucky Touch but would have been even closer had not jockey Frankie F. C. Lor dropped his right rein as he fumbled for the whip in the closing stages of the race.

Always Lucky on form

IT was two starts in five days for Always Luck and it was unlucky to run into a hot one like My Bunny. But the Brian Kan Ping-chee galloper will win a race in this company and it should be before the end of the season.

He had no luck in running on Saturday but showed last night that he is back to some sort of form and it would be enough to see him prevail in this company.
