Man in sea for 3 hours after fight with thieves

A businessman spent more than three hours in rough sea clinging to a plastic pipe before he was rescued, after falling in the water during a scuffle with thieves in Western yesterday.

The 42-year-old man, who runs a dried seafood shop, had parked his car by the waterfront near the Western Wholesale Food Market in Fung Mat Road at about 3.30am.

January 26: Two Korean women are robbed in Lion Rock Country Park by two men, one armed with scissors. They steal $250 and two mobile phones.

January 28: Another two women are confronted by two men, one armed with scissors, in Lion Rock Country Park. A windbreaker, two mobile phones, a handheld computer and $300 are stolen.

Brothers arrested over taxi robberies in New Territories

Two brothers believed to be connected with at least 14 taxi robberies in the northern New Territories in the past two years, were arrested in Tuen Mun early yesterday morning.

The pair used knives to rob the drivers and in some cases forced their victims to disclose the PIN numbers of their bank cards. The brothers, 27 and 29, were last night being detained for questioning.

Yuen Long flats ransacked

Two mobile phones, $9,000 in cash and bank cards were stolen from three apartments in a block of flats in Yuen Long. Police were called to the building in Fung Yau Street North at 7.30am when tenants on the fourth, 10th and 11th floors woke to find flats ransacked. The window grilles of the flats had been removed.

Beauty centre robber strikes

A man wearing a black cap and armed with what appeared to be a pistol robbed three women of their mobile phones, bank cards and a small amount of cash in a third-floor beauty centre in Percival Street, Causeway Bay. The raider grabbed a member of staff leaving the centre and forced her inside, then robbed her, another staff member and a customer before fleeing.

Armed men rob Sha Tin computer firm of $7 million worth of goods

SEVERAL armed men robbed a Sha Tin computer company of about $7 million worth of components on Friday night.

The robbers burst into the company in Sui Wo Road and gagged, blindfolded and tied three staff, police said. About 150 boxes of computer components were taken and the staff robbed of $1,300 in cash, a necklace, mobile phone and four bank cards.

Victim left unconscious

A man was unconscious for more than eight hours after being attacked and robbed by three men in Shamshuipo. The 23-year-old was found with head injuries lying in a lane behind Cheung Sha Wan Road at 7.30am. He said he lost cash, bank cards, a gold necklace, bracelet and ring.

'Taiwanese tourist' drugs and robs victim outside Coliseum

A MAN was drugged and robbed by a Putonghua-speaker posing as a Taiwanese tourist in Tsim Sha Tsui last night.

The 33-year-old victim was given an orange juice by the man after helping him with directions to the Hong Kong Coliseum. He lost consciousness and awoke to find his wallet, containing $700 and three bank cards, missing.

A 26-year-old man was shot in the hand during a struggle with a robber armed with an air gun near a vegetable market in Nam Tei, Tuen Mun. The attacker snatched his wallet containing $5,000 and two bank cards.

Motorist in boot

A motorist, Yu Shiu-chi, 40, spent four hours locked in the boot of her car after being robbed by a gunman who was missing his left thumb. Ms Yu, who lost $2,000, jewellery, a telephone and bank cards in the China Hong Kong City car park, Tsim Sha Tsui, was freed after another motorist heard her cries for help.
