A pair of bank robbery suspects caused mayhem after hurling fistfuls of stolen cash from their vehicle in a failed getaway from Los Angeles cops. As the cash fluttered in the breeze, hundreds of people scrambled into the path of oncoming police cars, lunging at the flying bills.

Timeline: trail of blood links Zhou Kehua to fatal robberies in three provinces

April 22, 2004 Zhou Kehua allegedly robs a bank in the Jiangbei district of Chongqing and shoots two women withdrawing cash, killing one and injuring the other. He escapes with 70,000 yuan.

May 16, 2005 Zhou allegedly shoots a couple and steals 170,000 yuan at a bank in Chongqing's Shapingba district. The gunman then targets a passer-by. Two die, one is injured.

Police suspect bank explosion was robbery

Wuhan police say they still have not identified the cause of a bank explosion that killed two people and injured more than 10 on Thursday.

An officer from the criminal investigation bureau said the most experienced detectives and forensic experts in Hubei had met yesterday to piece together evidence, list suspects and examine possible motives.

Failed bank robber jailed for 10 years

An illegal immigrant who admitted trying to rob a bank with a defective pistol was jailed for 10 years yesterday. The Court of First Instance was told, mainlander Wu Yu-yuan handed a note in Chinese to Wing Lung Bank staff in Yau Ma Tei on April 25 last year, saying: 'Robbery. Take out money. I have bomb.' He fled when staff ignored him. Police later arrested him.

Four Colombians accused of stealing HK$4 million in cash and valuables after breaking into the Bank of East Asia in Nathan Road appeared in Kowloon City Court yesterday. The case was adjourned to Wednesday and they were remanded in custody.

Robber runs into police while fleeing bank

A bank robber went from the frying pan into the fire when he ran into police officers while fleeing a pursuer from a bank he had just robbed in Tsuen Wan yesterday.

The robbery happened at 3.43pm when the man approached a counter in the Sha Tsui Road branch of Wing Hang Bank.

Rise in murder rate played down

Homicides were up in the first 10 months of this year, but the security chief says there is nothing to be alarmed about.

There were 34 cases from January to October, up from 21 cases for the same period last year. But the overall crime rate has dropped by 2.5 cent and Ambrose Lee Siu-kwong, secretary for security, said the rate 'was very stable'.
