Towngas signs HK$3.8b loan deal

Towngas yesterday signed a HK$3.8 billion five-year syndicated loan facility agreement with a group of banks. Jointly arranged by the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Mizuho Corporate Bank and Citi, it was oversubscribed by more than 70 per cent.

Heavy demand sees institutional book covered in a few hours

Bank of China, the mainland's second-largest lender, received overwhelming response to its giant initial public share offering with the institutional book being fully covered on the first day of opening yesterday, attracting at least $72.86 billion worth of orders.

Loan step closer

Hysan Development Co's plans to issue $2 billion in floating rate notes have moved a step closer with 10 international banks committed to underwrite the issue.

They are Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, Sakura Finance, Sanwa International, DKB Asia, Fuji International, Societe Generale, BNP, Credit Lyonnais, Bank Austria and J.P. Morgan.

Big is beautiful for banks

JAPAN'S Mitsubishi Bank and Bank of Tokyo combined to form Tokyo-Mitsubishi Bank with assets of 54 trillion yen (HK$3.90 billion), making it the world's largest bank. Chase Manhattan Corp and Chemical Banking Corp completed their US$13 billion merger, forming the largest bank in the US.
