A former NBA player best known for his 1990 tournament buzzer-beater for the University of Connecticut was convicted on Monday of four counts of federal wire fraud in a Ponzi scheme that netted him US$2 million.

Former Chicago Bulls basketball star Scottie Pippen will not be prosecuted over an altercation with a man at a Malibu restaurant in June, prosecutors said on Tuesday, citing insufficient evidence.

Pippen, 47, was questioned by police following a scuffle with the man outside the Nobu eatery in the oceanfront community of Malibu in June.

Bryant on Wednesday said his surgically repaired Achilles’ tendon is “progressing faster than anybody expected,” though he won’t start shooting again until next month.

Wade, James power heat past spurs in NBA finals

LeBron James made good on his promise and Dwyane Wade got his swagger back as the Miami Heat rebounded from a crushing loss in game three to level the NBA finals at 2-2. Wade had a throwback game by finishing with 32 points and six steals while James had a game-high 33 points as the Heat defeated San Antonio 109-93 at the ATT Centre arena.

The Brooklyn Nets have hired Jason Kidd as their coach, bringing the former star back to the franchise he led to its greatest NBA success.

Kidd retired earlier this month after one season with the New York Knicks, his 19th in the NBA. The Nets decided to hire him to replace P.J. Carlesimo despite his absence of coaching experience.

Gary Neal scored a playoff career-high 24 points and Danny Green had a game-high 27 points as the San Antonio Spurs stunned the Miami Heat 113-77 in game three of the NBA finals.

The Spurs never trailed in the contest, seizing a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series as they gave the Heat a taste of their own medicine after Miami blew out San Antonio 103-84 in game two.
