China Gas in talks to buy 2 billion yuan of projects from parent

China Gas, the mainland's largest city gas distributor, is in talks to buy a 2 billion yuan (HK$2.54 billion) portfolio from its biggest shareholder, Beijing Enterprises Group, according to sources with the companies.

Beijing Enterprises, the capital's listed flagship conglomerate whose main business is gas distribution, reported that net profit rose 10 per cent in the first half to HK$1.82 billion year on year.

Shares of the company edged up 1.33 per cent yesterday to HK$49.55, outpacing the benchmark Hang Seng Index, which dropped 1.2 per cent.

Beijing Enterprises to invest in beer, utilities

Red chip Beijing Enterprises Holdings will pour 5 billion yuan (HK$5.9 billion) into breweries, water and gas supply to spur growth this year.

The spending plan followed a 10 per cent rise in attributable profit to HK$2.63 billion, or HK$2.32 per share, last year at the Beijing municipal government conglomerate.
