Beijing Enterprises to invest in beer, utilities

Red chip Beijing Enterprises Holdings will pour 5 billion yuan (HK$5.9 billion) into breweries, water and gas supply to spur growth this year.

Beer, gas drive 93.7pc jump in Beijing Enterprises profit

Beijing Enterprises Holdings, the investment arm of the capital's city government, expects its gas and beer businesses to maintain their robust growth after reporting a 93.7 per cent jump in first-half earnings.

'Our gas sales volume in Beijing grew at a rate of more than 20 per cent in past years and [we expect] such a trend will continue,' said vice-chairman Zhou Si.

Kingway to raise HK$757m for new plants

Kingway Brewery, a mainland beer maker in which Heineken owns 20 per cent, has proposed to raise about HK$757 million by selling rights shares to fund construction of new plants.

Kingway will sell at least 310 million rights shares at HK$2.42 each on the basis that holders of every nine existing shares are entitled to buy two. HSBC is arranging the sale.

Exceptional start for red chip

Red chip Beijing Enterprises Holdings says it will record an exceptional profit of $211 million this year in addition to a net profit of $350 million. The company said a subsidiary of its 80 per cent owned Yanjing Brewery would raise 587.2 million yuan (about HK$544.9 million) by issuing 80 million A shares, or 25.9 per cent of enlarged share capital, at 7.34 yuan each.
