The fisherman wanted to be photographed with a beaver. The beaver had other ideas: it attacked the 60-year-old man with its razor-sharp teeth, slicing an artery and causing him to bleed to death.

Quality sprinter-miler Master Eagle yesterday put in a huge effort when taking the first of six barrier trials run on the Happy Valley grass. There was some concern beforehand that the trials may not take place as some 21 millimetres of rain fell yesterday afternoon, a further 11mm during the night and then there was another 6mm in an hour leading up to the trials which commenced at 7 am.
