Colourful chic off the bold block

Colour blocking is one of the seasonal trends you can't miss. Literally. How can you not notice a shade of orange paired with a plane of hot pink? Yes, these colours apply to men as well. You want proof? Head to Joyce and look at the Jil Sander rack.

200 stranded after glitch on cable car

Two hundred passengers on the Lantau cable car were stranded in mid-air for 50 minutes yesterday when a misplaced conveyor belt halted operations - the longest such halt since the service reopened on December 31.

The latest hitch was caused by a technical error that occurred for the first time, a spokesman said. Engineers insisted the incident did not endanger anyone.

Cling or fling? A quick guide

What to keep

Lightweight scarves: in silk and wool, they can easily jazz up an outfit.

Parkas: they're here to stay and have been updated with quilted styles.

The cocoon dress: as seen on the Lanvin and Yves Saint Laurent runways, it's still a hip and flattering option.

Waist belt just made my belly itch

With no energy left for exercise after work, and lured by adverts for slimming belts, I parted with $1,600 to see if they were effective. The result: I think it is time I found the time and energy to visit the gym.

On style, she rules

Tepid response to taxi back-seat belts

The introduction yesterday of a law requiring back-seat passengers in some taxis to wear seat belts met with a lukewarm response.

Cabbies were unsure if full compliance could be achieved, while passengers had doubts over the law's effectiveness in improving safety.

I wholeheartedly endorse the sentiments expressed in Thomas Chow's letter headlined, 'Belt up' (Sunday Morning Post, November 19).

I have asked many taxi drivers, especially drivers of new taxis, why they have rear seat belts but no buckles to go with them.
