Hong Kong's wave of interest in fine wines has inspired entrepreneurs to import more sophisticated vodkas in the hope of creating a climate of connoisseurship around the spirit.

Residents oppose plan to open car parks

The Housing Society has been accused of infringing the rights of residents at two housing estates after it sought to open up two underused car parks for public use.

Citing low tenancy rates, the society applied to the Town Planning Board for permission to open the car parks at Park Belvedere in Ma On Shan and Sunshine Grove in Sha Tin to non-residents.

From Russia with festive angels

It was Christmas by way of the Kremlin as Club M1NT and Belvedere Vodka hosted a wild and festive bash on December 16 labelled From Russia with Love. The romance was provided by angelic male and female models - modestly attired in little more than fur wings - serving caviar and drinks, while vocalist Natalie Hardon added to the night's entertainment.

Perfect Match

The classic British fry-up is great for breakfast in the winter or a leisurely Sunday brunch - and it's probably the ultimate hangover cure (the other 'cure' being moderation). It can have all sorts of additions, but the basic ingredients are fried eggs, thinly cut beefsteak, sausages, bacon and some sort of starch. My Lebanese friends insist on adding rare liver.

Sales pick-up brings more calls for tenders in island's luxury sector

A pick-up in sales in the luxury sector has encouraged owners to release properties for sale by tender, according to estate agents. Joining the latest offer are a house on The Peak and a luxury apartment in Mid-Levels.

Raymond W F Ho & Co said House 2 at The Belvedere in Plantation Road on The Peak is for sale by public tender. The closing date is March 28.

A shot of winter warmth

Days before the cold spell that hit Hong Kong, upmarket Indian restaurant Veda was used as a launch pad to introduce Belvedere and Chopin, two Polish luxury vodkas, at a party christened Ice & Caviar. We didn't quite see the connection between the Polish-born French composer and an alcoholic, potato-based beverage, but after a few sample swigs, a certain musical sway took hold.

MORE and more exclusive homes on the Peak will fall victim to the wrecker's ball following the record-breaking $276 million sale of Belvedere House, according to Raymond Ho, director of investment for First Pacific Davies (FPD).

BELVEDERE, one of the best homes on The Peak, is being offered to Hong Kong's army of developers for demolition and redevelopment.

The 10,000-square-foot two-storey house in Plantation Road, with its extensive garden, private swimming pool and unobstructed views of Victoria Harbour, could fetch a record price for a Hong Kong home.

Prices slide in Belvedere

PRICES for flats in Belvedere Garden have continued to plummet. According to the latest Brooke Hillier Parker (BHP) report, flats selling for $2,821 per square feet (psf) in January dropped 2.8 per cent in February, to $2,742 psf.

This price shows a 16.8 per cent decrease since its peak last August at $3,291 psf.
