Yingkou Port acquires parent's seven berths in asset-share swap

Yingkou Port, a Shanghai-listed port operator in Liaoning province, will acquire 5.8 billion yuan worth of port assets from its parent company by issuing 443 million new shares, as it seeks to increase berth efficiency and avoid connected transactions.

There I was thinking that houses with double garages were posh, but at these penthouses, luxury triplexes and duplexes at the Royal Phuket Marina in Thailand, you can park your yacht in private berths under the house. Handy!

Tokyo to forego Sunday charges

Tokyo port authorities will exempt vessels from port and berthing charges if they enter for loading or unloading cargo on Sundays.

The new policy, expected to be implemented soon, will be Japan's first attempt to establish a permanent, 24-hour, 365-day-a-year service.

Expansion to containers; new multi-functional berths by 2001

Hong Kong-based China Infrastructure Group (CIG) is optimistic about Zhapu port, on the northern shore of Hangzhou Bay, as a future feeder and transshipment port.

CIG executive chairman Edward Chow Kwong-fai said the port, whose two existing berths were handling 1.1 million tonnes of general and bulk cargo per year, would be expanded to handle containers.

Gold Star Line enters vessel-sharing contract

Hong Kong-based Gold Star Line, ICFS of Mauritius and X-Press Container Line (UK) say have entered a vessel-sharing agreement covering their service between Bombay and Colombo, officials say.

The combination of the existing fleet of three vessels into a single schedule from today means shippers will have a sailing every four days and a daily berth coverage at both ends.

Tender matter

After yesterday's disruptive sail-past by protesting barge-operators, other harbour users might be tempted to cheer if the demonstrators on the water sank without trace. The protest did, however, serve to focus attention on the Government's plan to put the use of public cargo handling berths out to tender.

Algeciras Bay aims to raise vessel traffic

Spain's Algeciras Bay port forecasts that more than 15,000 vessels a year will pass through its berths by 2000, director Jose Luis Estrada Llaquet says.

The port's strength was its traffic diversity, Mr Estrada Llaquet said.
