Guangzhou has highest average salaries for cities in mainland China

A survey of more than two dozen urban areas on the mainland has found salaries are highest in Guangzhou, where employees receive an average of 57,473 yuan (HK$70,150) a year.

The Guangdong capital was followed by the national capital Beijing and Nanjing , where the figure was 56,061 yuan and 54,713 yuan respectively.

Divers will attempt to get into tugboat through cabin door

Divers working on the wreck of the tugboat that sank with 18 Ukrainian seamen on board will try to get into the vessel after locating an entrance near the deck, a senior fire officer said yesterday.

But the work is difficult because of hostile conditions underwater, and it could be days before the supply boat can be lifted from the seabed.

NUM deal to boost NCH

Venture-capital firm NUM Capital says it has bought a 30 per cent stake in Rotterdam shipping firm Nile Dutch Holding (NCH) from its two owners. NCH's unit Nile Dutch Africa Line operates a scheduled service between Western Europe and ports in West and Southwest Africa. The service will be expanded.
