Pakistani troops killed two Indian soldiers yesterday near the disputed border between the nuclear-armed neighbours in Kashmir, the Indian Army said, adding that one of the bodies was badly mutilated.

The firefight broke out at about noon after an Indian patrol discovered Pakistani troops about half a kilometre inside Indian territory, an army spokesman said.

A Pakistani soldier was killed and another injured in a gunfight between Indian and Pakistani troops in Kashmir on Sunday, a disputed incident that could heighten tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours after a period of rapprochement.
