Brandy and tea doesn't sound like a winning combination; it seems as unlikely as the once-trendy Scotch and green tea. But the Cucina restaurant at the Marco Polo Hongkong hotel offers a tasty cocktail of cognac and a herbal infusion called the Cucina Rose.

A call to arms

Would you offer strangers a hug to brighten their lives? The idea, which started in Sydney, Australia three years ago, is catching on in Hong Kong, mainly among young people. An idealistic few, keen to bring human contact back to isolated urban lives, have been staging Free Hugs events across the city over the past few months.

Best buys

Last time I looked, Great in Pacific Place had fresh truffles - both the black and white variety. Good (or should I say great?) news, that is if you can afford them. The black truffles are $1,288 per 100 grams, the whites are $3,288 per 100 grams.
