Riot dead raised to 184, mostly Han

Mainland authorities have finally issued a breakdown of the deaths in China's worst ethnic violence in decades. Early today, they raised the number killed in the riots in Urumqi , capital of the Xinjiang region, to 184.

Yu Chengwei

Yu Chengwei, 32, lives in a village in Beijing's outskirts, near Du Zhuang, in Shunyi. He married into a family of three daughters, who also live in the village. They all grow vegetables to sell at market, and breed sheep for their own consumption. On their wall, next to the television, is a poster of Deng Xiaoping, Mao Zedong, Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao.

Peak house robbed

Two mainlanders robbed a flat on the Peak and escaped with $8,000 in cash and jewels worth more than $50,000. Police said the robbers, armed with knives, sneaked into the flat in Mount Kellett Road through first-floor windows and tied up a woman and her brother-in-law.

Man found dead in suspected suicide

A man, 42, was found dead in a Kwun Tong flat yesterday. His brother-in-law found his body in Hong Wah Court, Wang Hong House. Police believe he killed himself by burning charcoal. He left a suicide note but gave no reason for ending his life.
