Citicorp in US$821m deal to finance Buick plant

Citicorp is to finance the US$821 million construction of a General Motors joint-venture Buick plant in Shanghai. The deal is the first major yuan syndication, the first joint US dollar and yuan syndication and the largest financing in the mainland funded solely by commercial banks, according to Citicorp.

GM to produce new mini-van

General Motors intends to add at least one vehicle - a mini-van, known as a U-Van - to its Shanghai production line, scheduled to begin turning out Buicks at the end of this year.

The U-Van is the name for the new generation of GM front-wheel-drive mini-vans, which includes the Pontiac Trans Sport, the vehicle named by one insider as the type that will be produced in Shanghai.
