I refer to your reader C. Ting's letter headlined, 'For fines' (Sunday Morning Post, February 22), concerning spitting in public places.

Under the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance, Cap 132 and its bylaws, spitting in public places is an offence and is liable to a fine of $5,000 on the first conviction and $10,000, on second or subsequent conviction.
