The Voice, an internationally franchised reality television show, has been a big hit on the mainland since its launch last month, with The Voice of China attracting more than 120 million TV viewers and 400 million internet users - and topping the ratings.

Alex Lam out to raise spirits and fulfil his dreams at Hennessy Artistry bash

The annual Hennessy Artistry concert taking place this year at Kitec in Kowloon Bay on Friday night features a roster of up-and-coming local acts.

Alex Lam Tak-shun, son of Canto-pop veteran George Lam Chi-cheung, is one of the featured artists. The 27-year-old singer returned from the US two years ago.

Cantop-pop stars help sing music site's praises

Hong Kong online music site Moov.hk is now available on smartphones. The free app, for iPhone and Android phones, offers access to more than 1.5 million songs.

To promote the new service, Canto-pop singers Andy Hui Chi-on and Janice Vidal, and veteran crooner George Lam Tze-cheung, were enlisted to star in a series of commercials.

The Hong Kong Repertory Theatre (HKRep) will kick off its 35th season next month with an eclectic line-up that includes a sequel to their 1992 box office smash hit I Have a Date With Spring, an all-original, all-local Black Box Theatre series, and the Asian premiere of the Cantonese adaptation of the Tony Award-winning play Red.

Fashion fanatic and Canto-pop lyricist Wyman Wong Wai-man now has fans not just of his flamboyant personal style, but also of his equally eccentric designs.

Local casual-wear brand Izzue Collection has collaborated with Wong on a capsule collection of menswear, womenswear and accessories - think denim capes and men's shirts with embroidery and a neon lace trim.

Canto-pop losing out

Over the past 10 years, Canto-pop music has really lost its way. People in other countries pay no attention to it. On the other hand, J-pop and K-pop are on the rise.

J-pop music has a powerful rhythm and beautiful melodies. K-pop stars have great dance moves and the lyrics are easy to remember.
