C'est la B's new cafe makes deciding where to have your tea a piece of cake

Cafe-bar C'est la B is venturing out from its hip Tai Hang location and opening in Admiralty's Pacific Place mall.

Its lifestyle-savvy founder Bonnie Gokson - whose other businesses include Central's penthouse restaurant Sevva and Sheung Wan's chic Ms B's Cakery - looked radiant at the grand opening event last Friday.

Starting right at the top, TREE, on the 28th floor, has a bright, open-plan cafe that not only looks out over the sea but, through a long window, into the furniture boutique's busy carpentry workshop.

Room to rejuvenate

The Grand Hyatt Guangzhou has converted three small salon rooms into one bigger meeting room of 150 square metres, with capacity for 90 people for banquets and 150 for cocktails. The hotel will also reopen its Market Cafe this month after a remodelling. The cafe will have eight open cooking stations, with seating for more than 200 guests.

A decade ago there was a dearth of coffee shops. If you wanted a caffeine hit or to linger over a cappuccino you invariably found yourself in either a hotel cafe or DeliFrance. Not anymore. Coffee culture is alive and well in Hong Kong: the problem now is deciding where to go.

The dull, if tasteful, hoardings which shroud what used to be the Mandarin Hotel's old coffee shop are about to be pulled down to reveal The Cafe at the Mandarin Oriental, which opens its doors on the 27th of this month.
