What made you become a pastry chef? 'My family is very focused on food. My godfather had a restaurant, my uncle is a pastry maker and my father works for a company that makes chocolate. My mother and grandmother are good cooks and make several types of cake. When I was 12, we moved to a village in the east of France and I met a baker with the surname of Marchal - the same as mine.

Unlike her upscale penthouse restaurant, Sevva, in Prince's Building, style-savvy Bonnie Gokson picked a Chinese tong lau on Gough Street for her bespoke cake shop, Ms B's Cakery. For Friday's grand opening party, Gokson booked the Shanghainese restaurant next to her cakery for the extra space.
