Smartphones drive compact cameras off the shelves

When camera-shop owner Gordon Yuen Tien-yau found two years ago that his Samsung phone could take very high-quality photos, he decided to add smartphones to the cameras on his shelves.

Surveillance cameras may become mandatory on the bridges of local passenger vessels in the aftermath of a fatal National Day ferry collision off Lamma.

The idea was among 10 long-term measures listed yesterday by Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, secretary for transport and housing, to enhance maritime safety.

A different viewpoint

The trend of Lomography - photographic art which uses film and a strange camera - started in Hong Kong in early 2000.

Justin Tsui Man-yin, marketing co-ordinator of Lomography Asia, said Lomography is most popular among people aged between 20 and 40. She adds that the Lomography culture is not just about the art of photography, but the importance of capturing a moment.
