Celebrating its 70th anniversary next year, the American brand Zippo, famed for its windproof lighter, has added pens, leather goods and even men's fragrances to its portfolio - everything but fire extinguishers, it seems.

Festival revellers face litter, wax crackdown

As many as 1,000 hygiene officers will be out next weekend to look for people who litter or burn wax during the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Patrols at public parks, beaches and barbecue sites will be stepped up from next Saturday to the following Monday, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department warned.

On Tuesday night, hip French brand Agnes b. managed to have an in-store show before a store even exists. The invitations for their autumn fashion event were at its flagship shop in the IFC Mall, but as far as we can tell, they don't have one there. Not yet anyway.

HK-made candles recalled in the US

About 185,000 decorative candles made in Hong Kong are being recalled in the United States because of a possible fire hazard. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission warned the exterior coating could ignite. The candles had been selling for US$10 to US$20. There were two reports of gold paint on the candles igniting, although there were no reports of injury or damage to property.

Candle sets Christmas tree ablaze in flat

A flat in the Wan Chai district was damaged after a burning candle set fire to a Christmas tree yesterday. Firefighters were called when one of the tenants, 36, woke to find a fire in the living room of the second-floor flat at Crescent Heights in Tung Shan Terrace. The tenants escaped the flat before emergency crews arrived.
