Policeman punched while trying to subdue fighters

A policeman was punched while trying to stop two men fighting at the junction of Carnarvon Road and Hau Fook Street, Tsim Sha Tsui, at about 3.15am. The two men aged 25 and 28 were arrested and the elder man was also charged with assaulting an officer.

Explosive tyre blowout injures seven

Seven women - including three mainland visitors - were hurt when the rear tyre of a truck blew out in Tsim Sha Tsui yesterday, spraying them with road gravel and sand. Witnesses said it sounded like an explosion.

The accident happened when the 30-tonne truck, loaded with steel pipes, was turning left into Carnarvon Road from Humphreys Avenue at 5.30pm.

Q How should heritage policies be reformed?

I am elated to learn that historic Kom Tong Hall is saved! Even as a young Conduit Road resident, I loved to wander around and admire the historic buildings in Mid-Levels, many of which have now been torn down.

They were part of a lot of happy memories for me as a teenager.

TOURISTS SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM NOISY CONSTRUCTION ZONE

Last month it was revealed that the head of a Hong Kong travel agency had warned European tourists to stay away from Tsim Sha Tsui.

Samuel Wong Hai-sam of Jetway Travel acted in good faith, displaying true courtesy towards his customers. He was just being honest when he described to visitors what they would have to put up with if they stayed in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Building on ambition

I refer to Choith Ramchandani's letter 'Will ugly building threaten ambitious redevelopment' (Sunday Morning Post, September 1). The Hanoi Road site in Tsim Sha Tsui was designated as a Comprehensive Development Area by the Town Planning Board in the 1970s. In 1997, the Land Development Corporation took up the redevelopment project.

Police have classified as murder the death of a woman, 54, whose body was found on a staircase in a building in To Kwa Wan Road yesterday. She was identified as Or Oi-chu.

Four held in junction fracas

Four men, all aged between 21 to 39, have been arrested on suspicion of having taken part in an unlawful assembly on Saturday. The incident occurred at the junction of Hau Fook Street and Carnarvon Road in Tsim Sha Tsui when a group allegedly threatened to assault reporters covering a suspected drink-drive case.
