Conviction over fatal golf cart accident

A driver involved in a fatal accident involving an overloaded golf cart was ordered to perform 200 hours of community service. Li Man-yam, 56, was convicted of dangerous driving causing the death of Chung Shek-shing, who was thrown off the toolbox of the golf cart Li was driving at the Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course on May 18 last year.

Carts upgraded for green race

To promote renewable energy and the concept of recycling, members from schools, universities and companies will compete in a solar cart race organised by Friends of the Earth (FoE) next month.

They will race carts modified from a model designed by FoE and a team from the University of Hong Kong in the annual event. The design was displayed at an earlier exhibition in Sha Tin.

Schools invited for cart race

Friends of the Earth (FoE) has developed the first local-made solar cart with funding from the Shell Better Environment Awards Scheme this month.

Secondary schools and universities are invited to join the first- ever Hong Kong Solar Cart Race to be held on November 26 at Vic toria Park. Racing teams will have to assemble a cart with parts and solar panels supplied by FoE.

Safety fears

Every day on my way to work, when I walk along Wharf Street in North Point at around 8am, I see a very large truck loading up compressed cubes of wastepaper from a wastepaper processing factory, which is located in the ground floor of a residential building.

This building is situated next to a kindergarten.

As recently as November, a newish golf cart could fetch $500,000 on the secondary market. Now, the asking price has dropped to $300,000, but there have been no new-cart transactions.

Developer keeps brake on golf carts

DEMAND for golf carts in Discovery Bay may never be met, ensuring they remain a luxury.

The estate's developer, Hong Kong Resorts International, said the supply would not be increased for at least the next 12 months.

More than 400 residents are on the waiting list to buy carts, which are substitutes for cars. Discovery Bay has a ban on cars.

Give postmen folding carts

WHY doesn't the Postal Services Department purchase three-wheeled folding carts? The heavy mailbag is hooked on to the cart and pushed or pulled.

They fold up into the size of an umbrella when not in use. This type of cart is used by postmen in the US.
