The red-hot property market in the first 10 months of last year has resulted in sizzling bonuses at some property agencies, which gave their non-sales staff up to 50 months' salary.

Investors drive small flats out of reach

Investors are pushing the prices of new small flats in Hong Kong to fresh highs that are beyond the reach of first-time owner-occupiers.

Evidence that genuine end-users are being squeezed out was on display at two launches last month that saw the price of a 297 sq ft one-bedroom flat hit HK$5.19 million, and almost double that for a 467 sq ft flat.

Secondary market sales jump 9.7pc in week

Price surge sinks shop sales to 15-month low

Sales of retail shops fell to a 15-month low last month as buyers baulked at big increases in asking prices, according to industry players.

With buying interest also partly hit by negative sentiment on the Hong Kong stock market, just 212 shops were sold last month, down 20 per cent from 265 in February, according to data from Centaline Property Agency.
