Damaged pipe leaves many without water

Tens of thousands of people living in Shau Kei Wan were without water for nearly two days because of damage to a pipe. The Water Supplies Department said a pipe at the junction of Chai Wan Road and Ah Kung Ngam Road burst at about 2am on Saturday. But workers were unable to fix the problem until after 12pm yesterday.

Appeal for information on fatal traffic accident in Chai Wan

Updated at 7.46pm: Police on Tuesday appealed for information about a traffic accident in Chai Wan last month in which a 47-year-old man died.

About 7.10am on July 19, a taxi driven by the 47-year-old man was travelling along westbound Chai Wan Road.

Full honours as fireman is laid to rest

Hong Kong gave its last salute yesterday to the fireman who died trying to save a worker from a sewer, laying him to rest at Gallant Garden.

Cheung Chun-wai, who entered the sewer without breathing apparatus, died on July 7 after inhaling toxic gas.

Man killed fleeing police

A MAN fell 10 floors to his death while fleeing from police after a robbery in Chai Wan yesterday.

Poon Chun-kei, 20, and two other men had broken into a public housing unit in Wan Tsui Estate at about 5pm. He was trying to escape as officers rushed to the unit.

Police have been asked by residents to step up patrols at a public housing estate after a 16-year-old girl was robbed and raped yesterday.

Lunch leaves 7 sick

Seven pupils aged between 12 and 16 complained of nausea and diarrhoea after eating food from lunchboxes at Sheng Kung Hui Li Fook Hing Secondary School in Chai Wan Road. Two girls and one boy remained in Eastern Hospital for observation. Food samples were taken away for examination.
