Missing elderly man found alive

Updated at 5.40pm: An elderly Hong Kong man who was reported missing during a hiking trek in a country park on Monday, has been found, news reports on Tuesday said.

Local radio reported that firemen and police officers discovered the 69-year-old on a slope near Lion Rock Country Park in Wong Tai Sin on Tuesday afternoon.

Sickle attack

A man slashed a woman's neck with a sickle after she refused to open a safe at her home in Pak Heung, Yuen Long. The suspect knocked on the 25-year-old woman's door in Jazz Garden at noon and forced her into her bedroom where he ordered her to open the safe. He hit two other women, 60 and 66, as he escaped. The first woman was taken to hospital for treatment.

Search for girl called off

An air-and-sea search for an unidentified girl, aged between 13 and 14, who jumped into the harbour from a Star Ferry on Monday night resumed at dawn yesterday but no trace was found of her. The search was called off at 1pm.

Hand-wringing Hong Kong hoteliers take note: a certain hotel in Israel is trying to drum up business by offering half-price accommodation to guests who don't mind passing a few hours cleaning rooms. The Candle of the Jordan Hotel in Tiberias, on the Sea of Galilee, recently adopted this spirited compromise after it was suggested by a visitor doubtless short of a few shekels.

10-year-old missing

A girl, 10, was reported missing from Discovery Bay. Police said Coco Chan had left the family's apartment at noon on Saturday and said she was going to McDonalds. She was reported missing when she did not return by 9.30 pm. She has short hair and a dark complexion, 1.4 metre tall and of thin build, and was wearing a white T-shirt with red pockets.

Police seek next of kin

POLICE are looking for the next-of-kin of an Asian woman dressed in a T-shirt and underwear found wandering in the airport's restricted area on Thursday morning.

The unidentified woman, aged about 25, was found near the immigration counters in the departure hall just before noon.

I CALLED the Immigration Department hotline 824 6111 at 11.45am on September 18. After 10 minutes' trying, I eventually got through to the hotline but was told that ''the lines are busy, please hold and we will answer your call shortly''.
