Charles Kaoi

Charles Kao was a pioneer in the development and use of fibre optics in telecommunications. Born on November 4, 1933 and based in Hong Kong, Kao was co-awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics for "groundbreaking achievements concerning the transmission of light in fibres for optical communication". He died on September 23, 2018.

The Nobel Prize winner in physics, who has died at 84, was not only the ‘father of fibre-optic communications’, but also an example to us all in his final years.
