Computer says busted: Chek Lap Kok system foils smugglers

Chek Lap Kok saw a record number of drug busts last year, the Customs and Excise Department said - and a new computer system at the airport is getting the credit. The data-analysis system helps pick out high-risk passengers for inspection. It foiled 204 drug-smuggling attempts, compared with 140 in 2011 and 161 in 2010.

Engine fault leaves Cathay passengers stuck at airport for 18 hours

At least three Cathay flights have been hit by mechanical problems this month.

Hundreds of New York-bound Cathay Pacific passengers were stranded for more than 18 hours at Chek Lap Kok airport on Sunday after engine problems with one of the airline's newest wide-body jets.

The 236 passengers and 28 cabin crew aboard the Boeing 777-300ER were ready for take-off when the CX840 flight to New York's JFK airport was grounded due to a faulty engine valve.

A bus driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm yesterday after his double-decker slammed into a stationary shuttle bus near Chek Lap Kok airport, injuring 23 people.

Schiphol airport eyes hi-tech and drug firms after starting mainland services

Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport is targeting mainland Chinese and Asian high-technology and pharmaceutical companies as it seeks to boost its appeal as a leading European airfreight hub.

This comes as Air China recently became the latest mainland carrier to inaugurate air cargo services between mainland China and Amsterdam with the launch of a five-times-a-week service on September 12.
