Man still living in blaze building

A tenant is still living in his subdivided cubicle in a Ma Tau Wai building that was swept by a fatal fire in June, although his landlord is racing against time to demolish the illegal structures.

Repeal a law which favours greedy property developers

As Paul Serfaty points out ('Compulsory sale law needs to be repealed', November 5), Albert Cheng King-hon ('Developing farce', October 30) is completely misguided in his support of a law that clearly infringes on the rights of owners of older buildings and places them at the mercy of greedy property developers.

Legislator and law partners seek HK$2m in election libel suit

Legislative councillor Andrew Cheng Kar-foo and his law firm sought HK$2 million in the Court of First Instance yesterday from a candidate in the 2007 Sha Tin district council election for passing out leaflets they claim contained libellous content.

Cheng, the firm K.B. Chau & Co and three other partners there are seeking damages from Ho Sau-mo.

Cheng denies new romance with Hui

Sammi Cheng Sau-man has denied media reports that she is back together with Andy Hui Chi-on.

The two had been widely reported as a couple after singer Cheng joined the same music label as Hui in 1989, although their relationship was never officially confirmed.

Still too early to judge new drink-driving law: transport chief

It is too early to say if stiffer measures against drink-drivers are paying off, according to transport minister Eva Cheng.

Between the introduction of random tests last Monday and 7am yesterday, four drivers were prosecuted for failing breathalyser tests. About 990 drivers were randomly picked to undergo breath tests.
