Pair accused of raping 13-year-old

Two men will appear in Kowloon City court today charged with the rape of a teenager. The 13-year-old girl was raped after meeting a man she had befriended online for the first time on Sunday and was brought to a flat in Cheung Sha Wan, police said. The men, aged 22 and 23, were charged with rape and Sham Shui Po district crime squad was handling the case.

Terror in bank as robber tries to set thinner alight

A malfunctioning cigarette lighter prevented a potential tragedy when a man spilled five litres of thinner in a crowded bank and tried to set it alight during an attempted robbery in Cheung Sha Wan yesterday.

There were about 20 customers and staff in the bank at the time.

Man arrested for murder in Sham Shui Po

Updated at 6.12pm: Police said on Tuesday said they had arrested a 55-year-old man in connection with the murder of a 37-year-old woman and an act of arson in Sham Shui Po in late June.

A spokesman said that about 9.20am on June 22, police received a report that smoke was emitting from a residential unit at 172 Cheung Sha Wan Road in Sham Shui Po.

Suspected triad members arrested after car chase

Police arrested five suspected triad members and seized four staves after intercepting their BMW in a pre-dawn car chase in Cheung Sha Wan yesterday.

During a 500-metre chase, the car jumped two red lights in Lai Chi Kok Road before the police intercepted it at the junction of Lai Chi Kok Road and Tung Chau Street at 5.30am.

A slip of the pedal and a Porsche goes down a lift shaft

A mechanic returning a Porsche to its waiting owner after servicing smashed it through lift doors, sending the sports car crashing nose-first two floors down a lift shaft.

The car came to rest on top of a lift on the first floor.

Firemen helped a 43-year-old from the blue 911 Carrera 4S and he was taken, conscious, to hospital.

Mother hid and watched as police found abandoned girl

The mainland mother who abandoned her seven-year old girl in Shamshuipo hid nearby and watched until police picked up her bewildered daughter, it emerged yesterday.

The mother told police she left her daughter on the street on Tuesday afternoon because she wanted the girl to live in her father's native city.

Police officer hurt

A motorcycle policeman was injured when he crashed head-on with a car at the junction of Cheung Sha Wan Road and Nam Cheong Street, Shamshuipo. The 30-year-old officer was taken to Caritas Medical Centre after the accident at 2.30am.

Street sleeper dies as temperatures drop

An elderly street sleeper died early yesterday as temperatures fell to 11 degrees Celsius in the coldest spell of the winter so far. The 60-year-old man, surnamed Cheung, was found lying unconscious near a newspaper stall in Cheung Sha Wan Road by a woman vendor shortly before 4.30am. He was declared dead when ambulancemen arrived.

Reporters 'beaten over accident coverage'

Two reporters were allegedly beaten by a group of men when they tried to take photographs of a road accident in Cheung Sha Wan yesterday.

The pair, from Sing Pao Daily News and Apple Daily, had been sent to cover the accident involving a car which careered out of control.
