A special sale will showcase Hong Kong ink paintings and put local artists in touch with mainland collectors. The sale, part of China Guardian's spring auction at the Island Shangri-La tomorrow, will feature 25 lots by 20 Hong Kong artists, including Liu Kuo-sung, Lui Shou-kwan and Kan Tai-keung.

Sotheby’s autumn sales in Hong Kong drop as China economy slows

Sotheby’s sold HK$2 billion worth of Asian and Chinese artwork and luxury goods in its autumn sales in Hong Kong on Tuesday, a 37 per cent decline from the same period last year as the market consolidates on a weaker China economy.

The tally was also some 18 per cent less than the HK$2.4 billion Sotheby’s sold in its Hong Kong spring sales.

Hong Kong's status as an art auction powerhouse was underlined yesterday with record prices and frantic bidding at two sales.

In its debut sale in the city, China Guardian, a major mainland auction house, performed beyond expectations, reaping HK$354 million, which was almost three times the predicted HK$120 million.
