Earlier this month, a canopy on a building in Tuen Mun collapsed, seriously injuring a man in the street below.

The first five-a-side New Territories Inter-school Beach Football Invitational wasn't quite so funny, but it did raise a few laughs. The tournament, supported by the Yuen Long District Council, was held at On Hing Street Playground in Yuen Long last Friday.

Diocesan Girls' School

Established in 1860 and recognised as one of the oldest girls' schools in Hong Kong, Diocesan Girls' School celebrated its 150th anniversary with a mega gala dinner on May 5 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.

More than 2,500 alumni, students, parents, school council members and guests attended the dinner.

Thanks to the nice weather, Chong Gene Hang College's annual cross-country race went off smoothly on September 30 at Lei Yue Mun Country Park in Chai Wan.

Lei Yue Mun Park soccer pitch became a sea of red, yellow, blue, white and green flags - each colour representing a school house.

Clementi Secondary School held its annual swimming gala at Victoria Park on October 17 under a light breeze and sunny weather.

True Light Girls' College

I was a cheering team member for Yellow House at the last Sports Day. I cheered for my classmates all day long.

The most exciting event was the hurdles. Competitors have to sprint and jump over six high hurdles.

Grant boosts New Territories schools

A million-dollar grant will help 12 schools in Yuen Long and Tuen Mun to upgrade their facilities and boost their extra-curricular activities this year.

Supported by the Sun Hung Kai Charity Fund, the North West New Territories Elite Students Programme was set up in 1996 to provide a better learning environment for students in the region.

Booths add colour to open day

Numerous fascinating booths attracted great attention at the annual open day of Chiu Lut Sau Memorial Secondary School.

Highlights included a warmly applauded performance by the school band and a computerised demonstration by the school's computer club.

The English club created a fabulous counter to introduce self-access learning.
