Christmas Eve

You just can't beat tradition

Every year I buy Christmas cards from charity organisations such as Unicef. I like to handwrite each card and mail them to my friends, both in Hong Kong and overseas.

Our most memorable Christmases

You better not cry, you better not pout. Hopefully Santa is still coming, even if he knows a bunch of bankers have been really bad this year. If the economy is bringing you down, maybe some of these odd, unusual and wacky holiday tales from local personalities will give you some holiday cheer.

Jingle bells ...

Bells are jingling, snow is falling (if you're lucky) and Santa is getting ready to make his annual trip down a chimney near you. Yes, it's the season to be bright and merry. It's Christmas!

Christmas clues

Berry, one of Santa's helpers, has made up a Christmas word game. Here are the clues for the words. See how many you can work out.

Exodus for festive season leaves the City post-apocalyptic

London

Not surprisingly, my parents have not seen 28 Days Later, the London-based film in which the hero wakes from a coma to find zombies running about the West End.

If they had, they perhaps would have likened the eerie silence that greeted them in central London on Christmas Day to the post-apocalyptic world.

City Seen

The chestnuts are roasting in a wok on the footpath and Jack Frost is hardly nipping anyone's nose, but there's still an occasional Yuletide carol sung by a choir, and one or two people dressed like Eskimos even though it is 16 degrees Celsius outside.

The origins of Christmas traditions

Many people believe Christmas is increasingly commercial, with an emphasis on lavish gifts and feasts. So how can we return to a traditional Christmas with its simple message of love and fellowship?
