Activists protest against 'crazy' rent rise in Tin Shui Wai market

Activist group Link Watch protested yesterday at a Tin Shui Wai market against the Link Management's rent increase, which they said had forced another shopkeeper there out of business.

Tenants make banner headlines

Eleven tenants of Tin Shui Wai's Chung Fu market and members of The Link Watch protest outside the China Resources Building in Wan Chai, unfurling banners demanding a meeting with Link Management chairman Paul Cheng Ming-fun. They want him to intervene in rent discussions after talks with Modern Market Management, a firm contracted by The Link to operate the market, broke down.

Bank robber steals $40,000

A robber who claimed he had a bomb escaped with $40,000 from the Tin Shui Wai branch of the Bank of East Asia. A bag he left behind in the bank, in the Chung Fu Shopping Centre, contained a clock and batteries but no explosives.
