Nation's film industry comes of age

The international acclaim heaped upon Waltz with Bashir and Ajami in the past two years has turned international focus on to Israeli cinema.

Both productions were nominated in the Best Foreign Film category at the Academy Awards, with many film critics believing Waltz with Bashir was unlucky not to be given the top prize.

Rare treat for moviegoers

Hong Kong film viewers rarely get the chance to see movies from Israel. But the Hong Kong International Film Festival this month saw two screenings of Julie Schles's poignant comedy Afula Express as part of the Asian Panorama section.

Schles attended the festival and took questions from the audience.
