Boy, 15, tells court of torture for losing drugs

A 15-year-old Hong Kong boy who 'lost' HK$1.83 million worth of drugs during a smuggling trip was beaten for days in Australia and Hong Kong and threatened with having his limbs chopped off, a court heard yesterday.

During the beatings, 1.5 litres of soft drink was poured up his nose, the boy told the Court of First Instance.

Operation for policy unit chief

Central Policy Unit chief Professor Lau Siu-kai, 63, underwent a 'preventive operation' at Prince of Wales Hospital yesterday. The government gave no details of Lau's problem but said the operation went well. He will be on sick leave until April 17 and the unit's deputy head, Robin Ip Man-fai, will be in charge.
