Hong Kong's Zhou Mi advanced to the women's singles second round at the US$300,000 Korea Super Series in Seoul yesterday alongside teammate Yip Pui-yin. Zhou, the second seed, rallied to beat Malaysian Wong Mee Choo 10-21, 21-10, 21-11, while Yip routed South Korea's Yang Ran-sun 21-12 , 21-10.

Bank chairman collapses at banquet

The chairman of Tai Sang Bank and Tai Sang Land Development, William Ma Ching-wai, was taken to hospital late last night after collapsing during a banquet at the Four Seasons hotel in Central. Ma, 55, regained consciousness on the way to Queen Mary Hospital at 11.10pm. He is a son of the late Ma Kam-chan who was a respected property developer and founder of the bank.

Man jailed for stabbing two neighbours

A man who stabbed his neighbours in a row about noise was jailed for 28 months. In the District Court, Li Chi-sat, 26, had pleaded guilty to one count of wounding and a charge of wounding with intent. Li stabbed Leung Wing, 60, in the neck and Wong Wing-fai, 26, Leung's daughter's fiance, twice in the chest at 5.25am on May 2 at Po Tat Estate, Sau Mau Ping.

So what was the buzz in 2009? According to search engine Yahoo, the most buzzed-up person in Hong Kong this year was Isabella Leong Lok-sze. Apparently, the young actress, through her break from the Emperor Entertainment Group and having Richard Li Tzar-kai's son, was the most searched person in 2009, with interest in her increasing fivefold from the previous year.

Guilty plea expected in threat against judge

An unemployed man accused of threatening the judge in the probate battle over Nina Wang Kung Yu-sum's fortune indicated he would plead guilty yesterday in the District Court. Hung Wai-yip, 48, who allegedly threatened Mr Justice Johnson Lam Man-hon in a letter, was remanded in custody. Judge Stanley Chan Kwong-chi adjourned the case to December 29.

Hong Kong sailors bag three out of four golds

It was good tide-ings for Hong Kong's boardsailors, who brought home three gold medals and a silver with one race still to go in the 10-race series off the shores of Stanley.

Vicky Chan Wai-kei led the gold-medal charge as she remained unbeaten in nine races to clinch the top prize in the RS:X women's class.

Local hipster outlet Juice joined forces with Reebok to create a limited-edition Pump shoe and threw a party to celebrate at its Causeway Bay shop on November 20. It's the Pump's 20th anniversary but it wasn't only footwear that was pumping at the event. With DJs, models and musicians in the crowd, the vibe was cool and crazy.
