Mediterranean restaurant Duo had a VIP happy hour for its regulars and long-time patrons. Owner and maitre d' Marwan Cabbabe unveiled the Hollywood Road establishment's cosy new lounge and served dishes from a new menu. Guests were given a new VIP membership card.

Out with the old, in with the new

Social networking site Alive Not Dead kicked off 2010 in style with a huge countdown bash at Japanese eatery Zuma on December 31. With actor and DJ Sam Lee Chan-sum (aka DJ Becareful) and Iris Wong Yat-tung (aka DJ Miss Yellow) providing the tunes along with a couple of other imported mixers, the wild crowd waved goodbye to 2009 and feted the New Year.

W is for wow as Diesel rocks out

W Hotel and Diesel co-presented Rockin' Wow night, a showcase of music, fashion and design, at the hotel's Living Room bar on December 4. Models wore Diesel's spring/summer Rockin' Dot collection, while Milan DJ duo Pink Is Punk kept the beats up. The event attracted celebrities and design industry movers who had just wrapped up the Business of Design Week forum.

Underrated interior design firm scoops up two big hospitality industry awards

One of the city's underrated design firms has just won an international award for its work on one of Hong Kong's underrated hotels. On Monday in New York, at the 2009 Gold Key Awards for excellence in hospitality design, local group AB Concept scored two big prizes in what is reportedly the industry's leading global design competition.

Colourful Carnival for staid Prince's Building

Hip hop duo get behind shop counter to promote their new CD

An unwitting victim of the Edison Chen scandal has been local rap group Fama - Cheng Sze-kwan, aka MC C-Kwan (left in photo) and Luk Wing-kun, aka MC SixWing. Signed to Edison Chen Koon-hei's record label, the group originally planned its debut large concerts for April. Although they denied the cancellation was related to their boss' troubles, the perception stuck.

Boutique with a taste for the old and quirky joins Hollywood Road gang

The elderly ladies peddling their wares on Peel Street have new competition. Select 18, a little hip boutique at the corner of Hollywood Road selling vintage and rare-import fashions, accessories and kooky knick-knacks, enjoyed a cosy opening on Friday. It's the brainchild of DIY entrepreneur Nadia Ying (the one with a tie), who also painted the shop's funky exterior.
