Young should take real risks before fighting for democracy

We have come to rely too much on the government and expect it to fix every problem, such as too expensive flats, for us. Photo: Bloomberg

You know why we are always rounding on our government? It's not just because it's undemocratic. Are we unfree and oppressed? I have been away from Hong Kong for a year. Yes, I have read about the growing resentment against mainlanders. But I never expected a welcome home party on Stanley beach to turn into a complaint forum.

Government is committed to cleaner air

Your leader ("Don't lose sight of clean air", October 17) and Howard Winn ("Never mind the weight, what about the concentration?", October 12) complained that the government trumpeted the reduction in the weight of air emissions when we released the emissions inventory.

Beijing finds Hongkongers' nostalgia for colonial era hard to fathom

Colonial-era flags on view at a protest in Sheung Shui.

Four years after Chen Zuoer retired from the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, he dominated Hong Kong's newspaper headlines again two weeks ago when he lamented the waving of British flags during recent demonstrations in Hong Kong.
