Bose calls it titanium silver.

Christmas sting nets 82,000 illegal discs

Twenty-eight shop owners and peddlers were arrested for selling pirated discs - on offer alongside authentic discs - in a series of crackdowns over Christmas.

About 82,000 pirated discs, including 52,000 DVDs of films and TV dramas, 9,000 music CDs and 1,000 other CDs were seized during the eight-day operation that ended on Monday.

Until three weeks ago, my entire collection of digital music had been ripped from CDs bought from brick and mortar shops. When I had an iPod, I wanted to buy music via iTunes, but couldn't because I don't own a credit card with a United States billing address.

Customs raid pirated VCD stores

Updated at 4.45pm: Customs officers yesterday seized about 20,000 pirated video compact disks (VCD) worth up to $600,000 from 22 stores in Mong Kok.

A spokesman said on Thursday the seizure included a batch of well-packaged pirated copies of Howl?s Moving Castle ? a newly released Japanese cartoon film.

Desktop storage systems maker Iomega says writing, or 'burning', data on optical discs should be easy and should cut through all the confusion over formats. It should not matter to a user whether the media format is a CD, or single-layer or double-layer DVD, the company says.

Network deal aside, Housing Authority looking for a few freebies

Ricky Wong Wai-kay's Hong Kong Broadband Network is in talks with the Housing Authority about installing its network throughout the government's housing estates, offering telephone, broadband and pay-television services to the masses.

The authority is conducting network tests and a spokesman says details will be confirmed in the next three months.
