Selby claims Classic triumph

Australia's Leif Selby went one better than his performance of 12 months ago to secure the men's bowls singles title yesterday at the Hong Kong International Classic at Craigengower Cricket Club. The 37-year-old (pictured) was a beaten finalist last year, but made no mistake this time around as he brushed aside the Philippines' Hommer Mercado 9-1, 11-3 in a one-sided final.

Officials must get rid of winged irritants

They've poisoned the rats, muffled the stray cats and rounded up the wild dogs; the authorities must now take action against the tasty pigeons.

I am referring to the pesky, unruly gang of about 100 pigeons that make the intersection of Leighton Road and Wong Nai Chung Road, opposite the Craigengower Cricket Club, their own domain of terror and splattered surfaces.

Graham holds off late charge to grab historic singles crown

NOEL Graham became the first Irishman to clinch a title at the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic when he won the Classic Singles in thrilling style at the Craigengower Cricket Club last night.

Graham, who celebrates his 27th birthday on Thursday, fought off a determined comeback from South African Neil Burkett to win 25-24 in the final.

CCC in move to save HK Classic

A $250,000 sponsorship deal from the Craigengower Cricket Club (CCC) has saved this year's Hong Kong International Bowls Classic.

CCC's sponsorship agreement, to celebrate the club's centenary, has been welcomed by the Hong Kong Lawn's Bowls Association, who for the third year running had failed to secure a long-term deal for the tournament.

Covers off for 1903 replay

HONG Kong cricket stepped back in time last night to commemorate the territory's first league match played - almost 90 years ago to the day.

The two sides in that game, which was played on Saturday, October 24, 1903, were Craigengower Cricket Club and the Civil Service Cricket Club, known as the Centaurs.
