Drug cases up, but violent crimes fall

The city's crime rate rose 1 per cent from a year earlier between January and the end of October. The biggest rises were in drug offences, theft and deception cases.

Big rise in student indecent assaults

The number of reported indecent assaults involving students significantly increased last year, police revealed yesterday.

Statistics show indecent assault cases involving students rose 38 per cent, from 82 cases in 2009 to 113 last year.

A record 91.4 per cent of crimes resulting in death were solved throughout the mainland last year, a senior law-enforcement officer said yesterday, saying the success rate did not involve torture.

Sharp rise in Guangdong's serious crime

SERIOUS crimes including murder, robbery, drug dealing and burglary rose sharply in Guangdong last year, according to a provincial court report.

The report, which will be delivered by Guangdong People's Court Director Mai Chongjie today at the Guangdong People's Congress said the crime problem remained serious last year.
