The Cross-Harbour

Tolls at indebted western tunnel go up tomorrow

Congestion at the Cross-Harbour Tunnel - already chronic - is expected to worsen when tolls for drivers taking the underused, debt-ridden Western Harbour Tunnel rise tomorrow.

Return of trucks likely to increase congestion

Traffic flow at the three harbour tunnels was down 9 per cent on usual numbers yesterday afternoon, with virtually no sign of traffic congestion caused by the fare rise at the Easter Harbour Tunnel.

There was little traffic congestion at the Cross-Harbour Tunnel even during evening rush hour, transport officials said.

Reduce toll

I occasionally have to travel from my home in Mid-Levels to the New Territories.

The shortest and cheapest route by car is through the Cross-Harbour Tunnel and then the Lion Rock Tunnel. However, sometimes the tunnels are crowded and there are delays of more than one hour.

Harbour revival

Tunnel company 'deleted too soon'

Lawmakers questioned last night why the Government had rushed to disenfranchise the Cross-Harbour Tunnel Company in the coming Legco polls.

Same toll for tunnels

I refer to Ian Stewart's letter on the subject of tolls for the three cross-harbour tunnels (South China Morning Post, October 22).

A look at the monthly traffic volume figures for the three tunnels shows that they are inversely proportional to the amount of fee charged.

AUTOTOLL has been in operation at three of Hong Kong's tunnels for a number of years now and as a regular road user I have appreciated the convenience of a single autotoll tag being valid for the Cross Harbour, Lion Rock and Aberdeen tunnels.

Law breakers

I REFER to the letter from Mr R. Marques (South China Morning Post, February 16) in which he complains of no action against motorcyclists crossing the double whites lines at Cross Harbour Tunnel.
