Silja forecasts sales slip

Finland's Silja expects its Baltic sea ferry operator Silja Line's 1997 gross sales to be more than 3.3 billion markka (about HK$4.25 billion), compared with 3.35 billion markka in 1996.

Kvaerner wins deal for anti-flood door

KVAERNER Ships Equipment of Gothenburg, the cargo access equipment specialists and part of Norway's Kvaerner Ships Equipment Group, has secured the contract to design and supply a prototype main deck flood prevention door for the world's largest passenger ferry.

The 59,914 gross registered tonne (GRT) Silja Europa operates on the Turku (Finland) - Stockholm (Sweden) run.

Last-minute dash to grab casino ship cash

CREW and gaming management removed at least $10 million from casino safes on the New Orient Princess minutes before they fled the blazing ship last week, sources close to its agents said.

The money had been kept locked up far from the sauna at the stern of the 4,200-tonne ship where the fire started.
