Fan club growing

Hyundai has developed a staunch following for its 2.4-litre Santa Fe (HK$279,470) and two-litre Tucson (HK$206,163) sports utility vehicles in Hong Kong.

Sales of its 2.4-litre diesel H-1 van (from HK$183,800) have also grown from 'around 15 units per month', when it was introduced in 2008, to 'close to 100 cars per month', says dealer Hyundai Hong Kong.

Escaping addiction

In February, five Form two girls from Sheung Shui Government Secondary School were taken to hospital after they allegedly took drugs during lunch hour.

Two teenagers, aged 16 and 18, were later arrested for selling the drugs to the girls. The case caused an outcry about the sale and use of drugs in schools.

We were sorry to see that Porsche Carrera 4S in the Jebsen Motors lift shaft (below) last Saturday, and hope that its driver and owner have recovered from the shock. We can't mock the Porsche engineer's manoeuvring because, after all, we've also pressed the accelerator when we meant to brake. It happens to the most experienced drivers, particularly those with big feet.

Rupiah dive hits market sentiment

Indonesian share prices declined yesterday on heightened concerns that the rupiah could fall further after it hit an intraday low of 9,575 to the US dollar.

Dealers said the rupiah factor would weigh heavily on the market today.

The Jakarta Composite Index fell 5.065 points to 505.921.

Losers led gainers by 111 to 50.

Two-year licence loss for dealer over multiple IPO applications

The Securities and Futures Commission has suspended the registration of dealer Man Hon-yeung for two years because of his multiple applications for shares in initial public offerings (IPOs) in December 1996. The SFC said Mr Man's conduct 'distorted the entire subscription system for IPOs', and 'seriously impugned his fitness and properness to be registered [as a dealer]'.

SFC suspends dealer employee

The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has suspended the registration of Fu Yuen-hung as a securities dealer's representative for 10 months from January 1. An SFC investigation found that Fu traded through a relative's account at Solid King Securities while working for the firm between May and September 1996.
