South African rider Anthony Delpech will head into Sunday's Audemars Piguet QE II Cup on a high with Vengeance Of Rain after landing a brilliant three-timer at Happy Valley last night as his tune-up.

Island Speed has plenty of raw talent

Handy three-year-old Island Speed may be the youngest runner in tonight's Hong Kong Rugby Football Union Cup (1,000m) at Happy Valley, but he looks the one they all have to beat.

The Peter Ng Bik-kuen-trained sprinter hasn't been spectacular, but he also hasn't done a lot wrong in his 10 starts and gives every impression the best is definitely ahead of him.

I've been pretty fortunate, says injured Delpech

Anthony Delpech will go for precautionary X-rays this morning in the wake of his second bad spill this season, when brought down by Shane Dye's fallen mount Ambitious Marju in the second event.

Delpech was riding Metro Leader for trainer Peter Ng Bik-kuen and had the gelding in a fairly forward rails position when disaster struck at the 1,200 metres.

Pugnacious Australian rider Chris Munce offered a spirited defence of the stewards' decision to overrule the objection by the rider of runner-up Arigato in the Albert Handicap (1,200 metres) yesterday.

Anthony Delpech (Arigato) said he would certainly have won the race in the stewards' room had it been run in his native South Africa.
