Sniff it out

A sniffer dog's sense of smell is 2,000 times better than ours. They can smell where you have walked, even after several days. They can detect a spot of blood so small that we need a microscope to see it.

Because sniffer dogs have a very good sense of smell, they work with scientists and police.

Bush guests safe in fortress Regent

THE presence of former US president George Bush and wife Barbara at the Regent has turned the usual genteel ambience about the place topsy-turvy.

Yesterday morning sniffer dogs were being taken for walkies all over the hotel's marble staircase. And by nightfall, the heavy-set men with bulges in their jackets and electronic aides stuck in their ears had taken over.

SO George and Barbara (or Babs as some of us know her) are in our midst, and by all accounts enjoying the splendid views across the harbour afforded from the Regent where they are billeted - the choppy seas yesterday probably giving a homely reminder of Kennebunkport.
