Mainland media previously reported that Drogba had asked Fifa to nullify his contract after the club defaulted on payments following a shareholder dispute dating to September.

Didier Drogba came off the bench to score on his Galatasaray debut as his new Turkish side defeated bottom-club Akhisar 2-1. The former Chelsea star came on in the 63rd minute before heading in his team's opener just five minutes later.

Ivorian Yaya Toure has won Africa's top football honour, beating countryman Didier Drogba and Alexandre Song of Cameroon for the CAF player of the year award.

Manchester City's Toure, 29, claimed the prize for the second consecutive year, capping a season where he helped guide his club to the English Premier League title, their first in 44 years.

Chelsea star Frank Lampard has indicated this season may be his last for the English giants, in comments likely to fuel speculation about a possible move to China.

The England international midfielder, who has been at Chelsea since 2001, has been linked since March with a move to the Chinese Super League and last month Guizhou Renhe confirmed they were in talks with him.

Two goals from Ivory Coast’s Didier Drogba sparked a riot in Senegal on Saturday forcing the abandonment of the biggest African Nations Cup qualifier of the weekend after police fired tear gas in the stadium.

The trouble in Dakar overshadowed qualification for Ghana, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, Tunisia and holders Zambia who are all through to the finals in South Africa in January.
